Questions to Ask Your SWFL Remodeling Contractor

If you’ve never remodeled a home before then the entire process can seem intimidating. For starters, it’s a lot of money. It’s a big decision to make, even if you’re just planning to remodel a bathroom. Chances are, you will have a lot of questions for your contractor. It’s extremely important that you hire a licensed and insured contractor who has a great deal of experience with remodeling homes.

An experienced remodeling contractor will be able to answer all of your questions and help you with the entire process. Their experience will make the remodeling experience much more pleasant!

Here are some questions to ask your SWFL remodeling contractor…

Ask if they are licensed and insured

This is especially important when it comes to remodeling a home. There are a lot of contractors that come and go because they never operated in a legit manner. Do you really want some uninsured contractor working on your home?

How much experience do they have?

Even if it’s a new company, there’s a good chance the owner is highly experienced when it comes to remodeling homes. Always ask about their experience to get a feel for the company.

Ask about the other contractors they work with on remodel projects

An established remodeling contractor will often work with other companies to handle cabinets, plumbing, electrical, painting, etc. This is why working with an established business is important. They have good connections, they get better pricing, and they will guarantee the end result is exactly what you wanted.

Tell them what you want, and then make sure to ask them if they have any questions…

Answering their questions is important too! In order for them to understand your vision for the remodel, they will have to ask questions. Good communication will keep both parties happy.

Ask about their design recommendations

An experienced contractor, like Meeks Drywall, will be able to recommend ideas based on your home and requests. Some designs are more functional than others. Having a media wall is a highly functional change to your home, as you no longer need an entertainment center. Media walls can be customized to fit your electric fireplace, TV size, etc.

Maybe you want to open up a certain area of the house, but aren’t sure what your options are. Asking for remodeling ideas from experienced professionals is a great way to kick off the project!

How long will the contractor take to complete the remodel?

Getting the job done as quickly as possible is always ideal, especially if you’re remodeling a home you currently live in. Even if it’s an investment property, you will want the job done quickly so you can get a tenant in there.

Timing is everything – you don’t want a huge construction project going on in your home when you’re hosting a large holiday dinner or party for family and friends. Check your calendar, and make sure you schedule the project at the right time so that it ends at the right time.

What will the contract look like? Flat rate, cost plus, or time and material?

Of course, you will want to understand the contract and payment terms. There are three popular ways contractors like to handle remodeling projects – flat-rate pricing, cost-plus pricing, and a contract based on time and material. There are pros and cons to each type of contract, however, most feel the time and material contracts are best for smaller projects and repairs.
